Optional Pre and Post Tours
Pre Tour:
Snow capped peaks
The Huaraz area has some of the most beatiful
landscapes in the Andes, and is home to two Unesco World Heritage
Sites. The Huascaran National Park, with the highest tropical
mountain in the world, and the Temple of Chavin, 4th century
AD.
Reachable by land (7 hours) or private air (45
mins) from Lima, Huaraz deserves at least a 3-night stay;
accomodations are modest and home stays are possible if you are
looking for community experiences. Nearby Monterrey natural thermal
springs are an added attraction.
Post Tours:
In the heart of the
amazon
Manu National Park and Biosphere Reserve, one
of the largest and most significant National Parks in South
America, extends from above 4,000 m. / 13,000 ft. in the Andean
highlands to 300 m. / 1,000 ft. on the southern Amazonian
floodplain, covering some 15,000 Km2. The Park is a Unesco World
Heritage Site and one of the planet’s most species-rich
forests.
The lodges near the Park are rustic and cosy.
A three night stay allows you to appreciate some of the abundant
flora and fauna, as well as to feel the spirituality and wisdom of
the Amazon rain forest.
The Park is reachable by private air from
Cusco.
Lake Titicaca - heaven &
earth
Lake Titicaca , covering eight thousand square
kilometers, is the highest on earth. Its banks and islands have
been home since time immemorial to communities of farmers and
cattle breeders from the Quechua and Aymara ethnic groups. Great
weavers and fishermen, men and women accustomed to the hard
highland conditions welcome us into their homes. Anapia and Llachon
are lakeside communities where you can stay and discover their
people.
The island of Suasi, thought of as one of the
most beautiful places in South America, is a private island owned
for generations by the Giraldo family. The current head of the
family, Martha Giraldo, runs the only lodging on the island, a
charming ecological inn, of the Casa Andina Private Collection. A
three night stay is highly recommended.
The Island of Taquile is home to the community
whose fine weaving traditions have been recently designated as
Unesco oral and intangible heritage.
Lake Titicaca is reachable by air from Cusco
and Lima, or by road or train from Cusco.
