Your accommodation is a major highlight of the journey staying in
boutique hotels, jungle rafts in the River Kwai, a wonderful lodge
run by the Lisu people of Northern Thailand and the delightful Khum
Lanna. Hotels are centrally located, three star or best available
with private, western style bathrooms, air-conditioning and
(generally) TVs. Rural areas are less developed than the big
cities, which means facilities and services may be more basic.
All road travel is in comfortable minibuses or mid-sized coaches.
Your journey is escorted by both a Western tour leader, based on a
minimum of seven travellers, and a local English-speaking guide in
each location. Groups are never more than 15 travellers in
size.
ABOUT THAILAND
Never colonised by a European power, Thailand has retained a unique
and fascinating culture, blending bustling commercialism with
age-old traditions. Thailand is a land of incredibly diverse and
beautiful landscapes - from sun bleached beaches to verdant
mountains - and is home to some of Asia’s former great cities,
Ayuthaya and Chiang Mai.
Whether you’re bargaining in a Bangkok market, riding elephants
through the jungle or relaxing on an Andaman island, our Family
Tour to Thailand takes you to the heart of old Siam.
TOUR GRADING – EASY TO MODERATE
It is
suitable for adults and children who have an average level of
fitness and mobility. The tour involves walking and light trekking,
up to a few hours on some days and over uneven
surfaces (e.g. when exploring caves). There are also rides on small
boats, a raft, an elephant and samlors (Thai pedi-cabs). You will
need to be able to board and disembark boats independently,
sometimes between muddy or slippery banks.
There are some long road journeys (up to four hours) on
occasionally rough roads and one overnight train journey in an
air-conditioned carriage, soft sleeper bunk. You will need to be
able to handle your own luggage boarding and disembarking the
train. Your children will need to be able to swim. While
accommodation is of a good standard, this is not ‘sanitised’
travel; by day you will walk through markets and villages, meet
local people, and sample local food.
