19th century when it was frequented by Russian dignitaries visiting
the city. The original palazzo was designed in 1816 by Valadier,
whose idea it was to incorporate the external courtyard at the
entrance to the building, and then during the rest of the century
extra floors were added and the extensive terraced gardens
landscaped. Its location at the heart of the most fashionable part
of the Roman capital with the Spanish steps a few minutes away is
highly desirable. Today its terraced gardens are a real feature of
the hotel, providing a shady oasis amidst the vibrancy of the city.
Le Jardin du Russie restaurant opens onto them, so they can be
enjoyed as you dine al fresco.
