Description

A unique camel trek in the Sudan with Michael Asher

The Sudan, the largest nation in Africa, embraces a complete cross-section of African landscapes; Michael Asher leads this camel trek across the frontier between two geographical zones - the arid savannah of the Sahel, and the Sahara desert. Traversing the Bayuda Desert, a section of the Sahara wedged between bends in the Nile, it passes through a world of black tents and grass-hut villages inhabited by tribes of Arab, Berber and African descent. With hot days and cool nights under a brilliant canopy of stars, it is a region where tourists are unknown, and where camel riding is still a way of life. Here we can truly achieve feelings of tranquillity, remoteness and self-sufficiency.

Profile

Travel is by camel and 4WD vehicle, covering an average of 30 kilometres (18 miles) a day, on foot or on camel back. Reasonable fitness required.
