Introduction

Lucca, ideal for Tuscan cooking holidays, is charming - the city never really feels touristy, enclosed by its own walls which have now been turned into an elegant 12 m high garden, perfect for a passeggiata. Almost completely closed off to traffic, the city centre has a cosmopolitan air, the cobbled streets are ideal to stroll around and window shop, you just need to watch out for the locals (Lucchese) on their bicycles (usually with a mobile phone to their ear!).

Lucca is surrounded by the Apuan Alps, dramatic backdrop of rolling countryside, vineyards, rivers and charming towns such as the spa town Bagni di Lucca, as well as must see towns of Barga and Garfagnana.
