Iceland Super Jeep Tour
Introduction
With a population of 180,000, Reykjavik offers an interesting
mix of cosmopolitan culture and local village roots. Beautifully
positioned amidst fjords and mountain ranges it acquired its name,
meaning 'Smoky Bay', after the first settler, Ingolfur Arnarson, a
Norwegian Viking, saw steam rising from the geothermal springs
there in 874.
In fact, Reykjavik is a smoke free city and is heated almost
exclusively by geothermal water pumped from hot springs deep below
the earth's surface. Icelanders are proud of having the cleanest,
freshest air on the planet.
