Description

A classic trek combining breathtaking Andean scenery, archaeological sites and colourful Indian communities

Running through the south of Peru and into Bolivia, the altiplano is a harsh yet beautiful plain surrounded by snow-capped mountains and punctuated with small villages and Inca ruins. Life here continues in much the same way as it did hundreds of years ago when it was the heartland of the Inca civilisation. From the fascinating city of La Paz, we have an acclimatisation trek in the glaciated Cordillera Real before discovering Lake Titicaca and the ancient Inca capital of Cuzco, our base for exploring the Sacred Valley and the starting point for our 4-day trek on the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu.

Profile

4 days point-to-point walking and 2 day walks, with full porterage on Inca Trail. Altitude maximum 4200m, average 3050m.
