Introduction
The vigilius mountain resort, designed by award-winning Matteo
Thun, is a unique resort hugging the side of Vigiljoch Mountain at
1,500 metres above sea level. The resort can only be reached on
foot or by a cable-car ride from the village of Lana, situated
about four miles from Merano. The vigilius is built in natural
materials that complement the local environment, with an abundance
of wood offset by richer-coloured furnishings and large expanses of
glass windows that merge the exterior and interior.
The hotel:
The hotel’s 41 bedrooms and suites are unique as they have a
heated stone element that separates the bedroom area from the
bathroom. An added bonus is the breathtaking views over the valley.
Accommodation is up to 72m sq, with suites including a rustic yet
modern seating area with South-Tyrolean antiques and a panorama
bathroom.
There are two restaurants at the vigilius serving Alpine and
international cuisine. After a day spent outside or relishing
energising spa treatments guests work up a real appetite and enjoy
refreshing, subtle and crisp taste sensations by candlelight or by
the fire place. Parlour IDA offers a delicious array of local
specialities, including cappuccino and warm apple strudel in the
afternoons, whilst Restaurant 1.500 is a gourmet,
Mediterranean-inspired restaurant. Here guests are served creative
seasonal dishes, including vegetarian and gluten-free meals created
with panache by Executive Chef Gianluca Garigliano. The vigilius
cellar, the South Tyrolean Speck and Wine cellar, is chic yet
traditional, serving cheeses and wines, which include many South
Tyrolean and Italian highlights.
For those who wish to take refreshments with them whilst out
walking the vigilius provides picnic baskets, and there are
numerous walks, treks and Nordic Walking options in the mountains.
The hotel can arrange a guide to accompany guests, as well as
providing a range of equipment and mountain bikes. There are other
activities for guests to enjoy such as excursions to the local
towns and villages, sleigh rides and archery.
The glorious spa at the vigilius mountain resort fuses nurturing
Asian and Western treatments. Set on three floors it offers a
variety of massages and body and facial treatments, there is also a
pool, sauna and steam room.
