Sears Tower Sky Tower & John Hancock
Centre
The view from the Skydeck on the 103rd floor of the Sears Tower
is amazing! On a clear day, you can see up to 40-50 miles away –
across the city of Chicago, Illinois, Michigan, Indiana and
Wisconsin.
The observation deck at the top of the John Hancock Centre is
also worth a visit. The Sears Tower is higher, but its location by
the lake gives the John Hancock Centre a bit of an edge on views.
On a clear day, the vista stretches about 50 miles, beyond the city
and lake into four neighbouring states. Head here for sunset and
enjoy the views with a drink hand at the Signature Room at the
95th.
Chicago Blues Festival
Each May (or early June), the four-day Chicago Blues Festival
presents shows in lakefront Grant Park, where music fans enjoy a
breathtaking view of the Chicago skyline. It is America’s largest
blues festival and everyone has performed here including Ray
Charles and B.B. King. But you don’t need a festival to hear great
blues in Chicago. Anytime of the year you can go to the city’s
South Side, the place where it all started, and the place where
some of the best blues clubs are still to be found
Chicago Mercantile Exchange
Chicago Mercantile Exchange Inc. (CME) is the largest futures
exchange in the United States and the second largest exchange in
the world. Visit the lobby-level Visitors Centre and see the nearly
6,500 traders and staff run wild on the floor, shouting and waving
their hands in the air as they trade futures and options on a wide
range of agricultural commodities and financial instruments. Arrive
early (a little before 8.30am) entry is free.
Chicago Architecture Cruise
Chicago’s skyline and spectacular architecture is best seen from
Lake Michigan and the Chicago River. Narrated cruises highlighting
architecturally significant sites generally operate from May to
November.
