Cycling Adventure - 2007 Tour de France

Introduction

Ride two complete Pyrenean stages of the 2007 tour

To coincide with the Tour's exciting London start, we have teamed up with our Pyrenees and cycling specialist James Thompson to offer a unique chance to be part of the world's most spectacular cycle event. Our group will be based in the Ariege and Haute Garonne area of the Pyrenees. Over the week we will cycle two complete stages (stages 14 and 15) of the official 2007 route following a day or so behind the tour itself.

There is also time scheduled to watch the mountain top stage finish at the Plateau de Beille and the stage start at Foix the next morning - both from well-chosen vantage points. To complete the rest of stages 14 and 15, we head west over a series of excellent mountain cols. This trip will be a good challenge to regular cyclists, and for those wanting to push themselves further there are plenty of options for extra climbs and descents - most importantly, with our time spent close to the Tour we will really feel part of this fabulous event.

Profile

This week is aimed at Tour de France enthusiasts who want a memorable week cycling and spectating. It is not a competition and the rides can be done at your own pace. You will however need to be relatively fit as there is over 1200m of ascent on most days (max 2073m), but the daily distances are manageable with our longest day being 95km.

Group & staff

Accommodation

During this week there are thousands of tour organizers, press officials, spectators and competitors fighting over a very limited number of hotel rooms. We block-booked all our accommodation for the week on the day the tour route was released to the public. We have managed to secure 2 star hotels with private facilities, to be used on a twin-share basis on all nights with the exception of day 4 and 5. Here we stay in gite, well-located at the base of the Plateau de Beille - the rooms are basic and there are shared facilities (rather like a youth hostel). At the gite we may have up to 4 people per room. On certain occasions we may have to split the group between more than one hotel.

Food

7 breakfasts, 1 lunch and 7 dinners included.
