Climate: The Southern Hemisphere’s winter
(Jun-Oct) is generally warm (Jo’burg average daytime temperature is
20°C) and sunny, though evenings can be cool. Summer (Nov-Feb) can
be hot and humid, while in the mountains it can be misty or wet and
cold. Spring (Aug-Oct) is best for wild flowers. Mountain weather
is notoriously changeable the world over.
Clothing and footwear: Below is a suggestion of
what you might find useful to take on this trip. It is not an
exhaustive packing list. If you need further advice, please call us
or consult your nearest specialist outdoor clothing and equipment
store. If travelling from Nov-Feb lightweight cotton clothing is
best -
Waterproof jacket/kagoul
Warm mid-layer (i.e. fleece or wool) -for early game drives
Lightweight walking/trail boots
Trainers/sandals for relaxing
Sun-hat

Sleeping bag (2/3-season Sept -Apr, 3/4 season May -Aug)
Sunglasses, sunscreen and lipsalve
Insect repellent
Personal first aid kit
Binoculars
Dust can be a problem for cameras -take a dustproof bag
A self-service laundry service may be available in some
camps/hotels, but we recommend you take travel detergent

9 breakfasts (11 if doing Cape Town extension), 3 lunches and 5
evening meals are included. You must pay for all other meals
yourself (you can eat quite well for £8-£12 per day). Approximate
costs are given for guidance only, and may vary widely according to
